At first a carefully guarded musical treat, special groups of women singers known as the concerto delle donne attracted composers to write virtuosic music just for them in the early baroque period. These trios were some of the first women professional musicians. Music by Luzzaschi, Marenzio, Francesca Caccini, Monteverdi, Barbara Strozzi, and more.
